Flave AI Review
Lawyer-grade content policy with the governing-law clause left as [JURISDICTION TBD], paid for in crypto that cannot be reversed.

- Pass and pack prices not published; credits priced per action, NSFW photo 5 credits, 10s video 30
// What we liked
- +The most technically precise 2257 statement we have read, citing the actual code sections
- +Bans deepfakes, celebrities and public figures in sexual contexts, with NCMEC reporting attached
- +Nothing auto-renews, because the crypto rail makes it impossible, and credits never expire
- +Publishes the credit cost of every single action, and a likeness-removal channel on top of DMCA
// What we didn't
- −Its terms are governed by the laws of [JURISDICTION TBD] in the courts of [VENUE TBD]
- −Crypto only, no chargebacks, and the operator address and DMCA agent registration are both marked TBD
- −Help says training is opt-in while the privacy policy says opt-out, and that policy calls itself a working draft
// Our verdict
Excellent rules about what it will generate, and the clause naming the court you would sue in was never filled in, on a payment rail that cannot be reversed.
Flave's 2257 statement cites 18 U.S.C. § 2256(2)(A), § 2257, § 2257A and 28 C.F.R. § 75, and argues the exemption from the definition of a depiction rather than just asserting it. It is the most technically competent document of its kind we have read in this category.
Eleven pages later, its terms of service say your dispute will be settled under the laws of "[JURISDICTION TBD]" in the courts of "[VENUE TBD]". The square brackets are in the original. And the only way to pay is in cryptocurrency, which cannot be charged back.
That is the whole platform in two facts: somebody good was hired to write the parts that keep the company out of trouble, and the parts that would help you were left as placeholders.
What is Flave AI?
Flave is an AI companion platform at flave.ai: build a character, chat, get voice messages and voice calls, generate photos, and generate short live-action video clips. The roster is fictional and named by scenario, Charlotte the stepmom, Sophie the tutor, Maya the yoga instructor, and a ten-second video costs the same as a ten-minute voice call.
Two oddities before the substance. First, the product cannot settle on its own name: the public brand is Flave, but the help page is titled "Help", then "muse", its first FAQ answer begins "muse is an AI companion app", and the login panel just says "muse". Second, the site carries 156 routes, most of them programmatic SEO landing pages, and a large block of them are named after competitors: /candy-ai, /muah-ai, /pephop-ai, /joyland-ai, /talkie-ai, /character-ai, /nsfw-chatgpt. Two of those are products we have reviewed ourselves.
It goes further than farming the names. Flave's own features page carries a banner reading "🔥 Limited deal: 70% off Candy AI Premium". A platform selling you its own companion app is simultaneously running an affiliate promotion for a rival's subscription, on the page meant to explain its own features.
The operator is named: BasedLabs, LLC, with contacts at basedlabs.ai and an X handle of @basedlabs. There is no address. The footer reads "BasedLabs, LLC", followed by a bracketed "Operator address", then "TBD before launch".
Policy check, and it is clean. Across eleven rendered pages and sixteen bundles there is no image-to-image, no reference image, no identity adapter, no face swap, no nudify, no undress, no inpainting, no file input and no image accept attribute. Nothing. The only hits in the whole scan were the strings real person, real people and deepfake, and every one of them was Flave prohibiting something.
The prohibitions are worth quoting because they are better drafted than most. Section 3 is headed "AI-Generated Content; No Real Persons" and states that no human performers are recorded, captured or depicted. Section 4 forbids content sexualising minors or persons appearing under 18, "zero tolerance, accounts will be terminated and reported to NCMEC"; "non-consensual intimate imagery (NCII) or deepfakes of real, identifiable persons"; and "content depicting real individuals, including celebrities and public figures, in sexual or compromising contexts". The DMCA page then adds something almost nobody here offers: a separate right-of-publicity channel for someone who believes a synthetic image infringes their likeness, with verified identity required.
The features that actually matter
Every action has a published price, in credits. SFW photo 2, NSFW photo 5, voice message 3, ten-minute voice call 30, ten-second live-action video 30, custom character 250. Text chat is free while a pass is active. Credits never expire and replaying audio you already paid for costs nothing. For a category that routinely hides its token maths, this is the clearest per-action breakdown we have seen.
Nothing auto-renews, and it is honest about why. Asked whether passes auto-renew, the FAQ answers: "No. Crypto-only means no auto-renew is possible." It is an accidental virtue rather than a designed one, but after a month of reviewing platforms whose refund clauses void on first use, a product that structurally cannot bill you again is worth noting.
A recovery path for failed payments. Paste your transaction hash into /credits/recover, it detects the chain, finds the payment and credits the account; if that fails, email support with the hash. Thinking about the failure mode of your own payment rail is a sign of care.
Live-action video that is actually AI. We checked, because "live action" has meant real performers on other platforms this week. Here it is a 30-credit, ten-second generated clip. No real people.
Pricing, without the bullshit
| Item | Published cost |
|---|---|
| Text chat | Free with an active pass |
| SFW photo | 2 credits |
| NSFW photo | 5 credits |
| Voice message | 3 credits |
| Voice call, 10 min | 30 credits |
| Live-action video, 10s | 30 credits |
| Custom character | 250 credits |
| Passes | 30, 90 or 365 days, plus bundled starter credits |
| Lifetime "Founder" | Capped tier, 8,000 starter credits |
Everything above is first-party. What is missing is the exchange rate: the credits page sits behind a login, so no pack or pass price in dollars or crypto appears on the public site. You can therefore work out exactly how many credits your month will cost and not what a credit costs. That is an unusual way round, and it is the gap in an otherwise transparent product.
Now the part that deserves your attention more than any price. Payment is crypto only: USDC on Base, Ethereum or Polygon, plus ETH, MATIC and BTC. Flave states the consequence itself: "Crypto rails mean no card on file, no bank statement, no chargebacks." The privacy upside is real and it says so, no real name, no billing address, no financial-account information collected. The downside is equally real: "Cryptocurrency is final once confirmed on-chain." Consumed credits are not refundable, and terminated accounts get nothing. To its credit it concedes that EU and UK consumers keep 14-day statutory withdrawal rights on unconsumed portions, which it did not have to write down.
Set that against the liability cap in section 9, which limits the company's exposure to whichever is greater of what you paid in the preceding 30 days or US$50, and against the fact that the contract does not say which country's law governs it. You are sending irreversible money to a company with no published address, under terms with no stated jurisdiction, with a fifty-dollar ceiling on recourse.
What users say
This is where the picture darkens, and the relevant reputation is the operator's rather than the product's. BasedLabs.ai reportedly holds a Trustpilot score of 2.5 out of 5 from around eleven reviews, with complaints that the company took payment without delivering a working service and that support did not respond. We could not open the profile to verify it ourselves, because Trustpilot blocks our requests, so treat the figure as reported rather than confirmed, and treat eleven reviews as the small sample it is. The two trust scanners that cover flave.ai disagree with each other, one calling it suspicious and the other average to good, which is about as useful as that usually is.
The reason we are giving it weight anyway is the combination. A thin, negative record about the named operator matters more when the payment method cannot be reversed than it would behind a card.
One more inconsistency, on a question that matters. The help page says: "We don't train models on your chats unless you opt in." The privacy policy says prompts and generated outputs "may be aggregated, anonymized where possible, and used to train and improve our AI systems", and offers an opt-out by email. Those are opposite defaults for the same data, and the document carrying the weaker promise is the one labelled: "This document is a working draft. It must be reviewed by qualified privacy counsel... before public launch."
Final verdict: who is Flave AI for?
Get it if you want pay-per-action pricing you can calculate in advance, you actively want a crypto rail with no card and no real name attached, and you are comfortable buying in small amounts you would not mind losing.
Skip it if you want recourse. There is no card to dispute, no stated jurisdiction, no operator address, no registered DMCA agent, and a fifty-dollar liability ceiling.
The recommended formula is the smallest pass you can buy, paid in an amount you would shrug off, and no Lifetime tier until the company fills in its own address.
Flave is the strangest profile we have scored. Its content governance is near the top of this file: an exact 2257 argument, deepfakes and celebrities banned in explicit terms, NCMEC reporting, a likeness-removal channel, a clean codebase with no upload surface anywhere, and a per-action price list. Its consumer governance is a set of square brackets. Somebody paid a lawyer to protect BasedLabs from regulators and shipped before anyone filled in the clause that tells you which court to go to. 6.8 is what that earns: the rules about what it will make are excellent, and the rules about what happens if it takes your crypto and disappoints you have not been written.

// FAQ
Flave AI: quick answers
Is Flave AI free?
There is a free account and chat is free while you hold an active premium pass, which means the free tier is browsing plus whatever starter credits you are given. Every paid action is priced in credits: an SFW photo costs 2, an NSFW photo 5, a voice message 3, a ten-minute voice call 30, a ten-second live-action video 30, and creating a custom character 250. Credits never expire, and replaying a voice clip you already paid for is free.
How much does Flave AI cost?
It does not say, and this is the one number missing from an otherwise unusually transparent product. The credits page requires a login, so while every action has a published credit price, the dollar or crypto cost of a credit pack or a pass is not on the public site. What is published: passes come in 30, 90 and 365 day windows with bundled starter credits, and there is a capped Lifetime tier it calls Founder, which includes 8,000 starter credits.
Can you pay by card on Flave AI?
No. It takes USDC, ETH, MATIC and BTC only, with USDC accepted on Base, Ethereum and Polygon. Its own words are: crypto-only, no card statements, no chargebacks. That cuts both ways. In your favour, nothing can auto-renew, no card sits on file, and it does not collect your real name or billing address. Against you, a confirmed on-chain payment is final, so if the service disappoints you there is no card issuer to appeal to. It does publish a recovery route at /credits/recover where you paste a transaction hash to be credited automatically, and EU and UK buyers keep the 14-day statutory withdrawal right on unconsumed purchases.
Is Flave AI safe and legit?
On content it is one of the better documented platforms we have reviewed: no upload path exists anywhere in the product, and its terms prohibit deepfakes of real identifiable persons and any depiction of real individuals including celebrities in sexual contexts, with minors a zero-tolerance matter reported to NCMEC. On accountability it is unfinished. The governing law and venue are template placeholders reading TBD, the operator address is marked TBD before launch, the DMCA agent is not yet registered by the document's own admission, and the privacy policy describes itself as a working draft pending counsel review. The operator, BasedLabs LLC, also reportedly carries a 2.5 out of 5 Trustpilot score from a handful of reviews, which we could not verify directly.
