Soulkyn Review

Soulkyn is what happens when a roleplay platform is built by people who actually roleplay. Every dial you'd want is somewhere in the interface: how explicit the AI gets, what your character remembers, which of sixty-odd voices she speaks in. It's a workshop, not an app.

Which is exactly the good news and the bad news. Let's take both.

What is Soulkyn?

Soulkyn is a browser-based AI companion platform built around characters it calls Kyns: personas you create with their own appearance, personality, backstory and memory, then chat with, generate images of, and hear speak. It's been running since 2022, which makes it ancient by this industry's standards, and it's built by a founding team small enough that reviewers describe it as one or two people.

That matters, and not only as trivia. A tiny team explains both the depth (every feature a roleplayer asked for got built) and the rough edges (an interface that reviewers consistently call cluttered, with a real learning curve for newcomers).

Under the hood is an uncensored 70B language model, and the most distinctive control in the whole category: a content rating system running Safe, Tame, Mature, Extreme and No Limits. You set the ceiling per character. Most competitors give you "filter on" and "filter off", or nothing at all.

Policy check, as always. Soulkyn generates fictional characters, full stop. Two independent reviews confirm there's no face swap, no photo uploader, no undress tool and no celebrity roster, and the platform's own rules explicitly prohibit non-consensual explicit material and child exploitation. After the three tools we've had to throw off this list in a week, that clean sheet is worth stating plainly.

The features that actually matter

Memory that persists. The headline feature and the one users rate highest. Soulkyn advertises unlimited memory across plans, meaning your companion isn't supposed to forget chapter one by chapter three. It isn't magic (reviewers still report responses getting repetitive over very long relationships), but compared to the fifty-message ceilings elsewhere in this category, it's a real difference.

The content dial. Being able to say "this character stays Mature, that one is No Limits" is genuinely useful, especially if you run several very different scenarios. One documented flaw worth knowing: the voice call feature reportedly doesn't respect character content ratings, which is exactly the kind of inconsistency a two-person team ships and doesn't catch.

Character import. You can bring characters over from other platforms. If you've spent six months building someone on a service you're leaving, that's not a gimmick, that's the reason you'd switch at all.

Images and voice, on quota. Image generation is there (30 to 45 seconds per render, with the same character-consistency wobble the whole industry has), and 60+ voice options. Both are metered by tier, and heavy users report burning through voice quotas fast.

Pricing, without the bullshit

Here's the part that changed, and it's the single most important thing to know before signing up: Soulkyn killed its unlimited freemium tier in late 2025. Anyone recommending it to you based on "it's free and unlimited" is quoting a dead product.

There's a Deluxe Plus tier above that too, reported near $115/month, which adds video generation. We'd want to see that one confirmed on the checkout page before anyone spends it.

Two honest observations. First, this ladder is expensive for the category. Premium at ~€24.99 costs roughly double what Candy AI or Nectar AI charge monthly, and the gap widens at the top. What you're buying is configurability and unlimited memory, not a discount.

Second, a wrinkle almost every review glosses over: the pricing is in euros. If your card bills in dollars or pounds, your bank's conversion fee lands on top of every payment, so the real monthly figure is a few percent higher than any USD conversion you read online (including ours). Small thing, but it's your money, and nobody else seems to mention it.

What users say

The praise goes to freedom and memory: the ability to set exactly how far things go, characters that hold together over long arcs, and a feature list that keeps growing despite the team's size. Roleplay-first users who came from filtered platforms describe it as the place where they finally stopped fighting the software.

The complaints are consistent. The interface overwhelms newcomers. Moderation behaves inconsistently across features. Long relationships get repetitive. There's no mobile app, so it's a browser tab or a PWA shortcut. And since the freemium change, "too expensive for what it is" shows up regularly from users who remember the old deal.

On the trust side there's little to report, which is the good outcome: scam scanners rate the domain as legitimate, and we found no breach, no billing scandal and no cancellation horror stories. The flip side is a thin public record overall, so there isn't much of a user consensus to lean on either way.

Final verdict: who is Soulkyn for?

Get Soulkyn if: roleplay is a hobby rather than a distraction for you, you want granular control over explicitness and character behavior, and long-term memory is what keeps breaking your immersion elsewhere. Premium is the tier where the platform makes sense.

Skip it if: you're new to AI companions (the interface will punish you, and Candy AI or Secrets AI do the polished version), you want a phone app, or you're price-sensitive. There's more app for less money elsewhere; there just isn't more control.

The formula we'd pick: whatever trial access currently exists, then Just Chatting at ~€11.99 for a month to learn the interface, upgrading to Premium only once you know you'll use the image and voice quotas. Don't start at Deluxe. Nobody needs unlimited on day one.

Rating: 7.2/10. A brilliant workshop with a boutique price tag and a two-person maintenance crew.
